Obituary of Kathryn L. Symons

Kathryn L. "Kay" Symons, 88, of New Tripoli and Elizabethtown, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior following a brief illness on Saturday afternoon, November 11, 2017 surrounded by her family in Elizabethtown. Born in Mill Hall, she was the daughter of the late Doyle L. and Adalene A. Knecht Bitner. She was the wife of the late Ernest C. "Ted" Symons for 63 years before his passing in 2015. Kay was a faithful member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ in New Tripoli where she served on the kitchen committee and was active with the quilting group. She was a 1947 graduate of Lock Haven High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Mansfield State Teacher's College in 1951. She retired in 1985 from Central Bucks School District after a fulfilling career of teaching. In addition to reading, Kay enjoyed baking, especially special treats for all her grandchildren at Christmastime. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren are all blessed to have each received a quilt made particularly for them by Kay. She is survived by four children, Edward C., husband of Judy Starry Symons, of Springhill, FL, Kathryn A., wife of Warren Mueller, of Elizabethtown, Marjorie E., wife of David Mueller, of Elizabethtown, and David D. Symons of Nanty Glo; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three siblings, Eleanor Weed, Joseph Bitner, and Donald Bitner. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Ebenezer United Church of Christ, 7293 Decatur Street, New Tripoli, PA 18066. There will be no viewing. The family will visit with guests at a luncheon in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the service.
