Obituary of Jack L. Gillmore

Jack L. Gillmore, 66, of 1429 Drager Road, Columbia, PA died Wednesday afternoon, August 26, 2009 at Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, PA following a seven year illness. Born in Blossburg, PA, he was the son of the late Stuart and Ruth Feig Gillmore. He was the husband of Vicki Longenecker Gillmore. They would have been married for 23 years on Sunday, August 30. Jack was a 1961 graduate of John Harris High School in Harrisburg. He earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in chemistry and biology from the University of Dayton (OH) in 1969. He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a staff sergeant. While serving in the Air Force, he taught aviation and physiology, as well as being involved in research in hypo baric chambers, animal surgery, and toxicology studies for cabin atmospheres in NASA space programs. He was employed as the Director of Cardiology at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Lancaster. Jack attended Christ Church United Church of Christ in Elizabethtown, PA. He was a member of Abraham C. Treichler Lodge No. 682, F&AM and the Harrisburg Consistory. Jack was an avid golfer and played on the Senior Golf League at Four Seasons Golf Course. He also participated in a fantasy baseball league and played senior softball for the Fairview Team. Jack enjoyed listening to and playing music and was previously a member of the bands Diversion and The Right Connection. He also enjoyed raising border collies as pets. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his parents-in-law, Harry and Doris Longenecker of Rheems, PA; a brother-in-law, Jack Longenecker of Elizabethtown; a cousin, Edwin, husband of Gertrudes Gillmore, of Blossburg; and an aunt, Patsy Osani of Port Allegany, PA. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday afternoon, August 30, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Christ Church United Church of Christ, 247 South Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA. There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Private interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. The family requests that flowers please be omitted.
