Obituary of Talmadge M. McCoy

Talmadge M. "Tom" McCoy, 88, of Somerset, PA, formerly of Booneville, MS, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, February 25, 2018 at Patriot Manor following a steady decline in health. Born in Tuscaloosa, AL, he was the son of the late Homer T. and Allie V. Boyd McCoy. He was the husband of Wilma M. Shaulis McCoy for 64 years on September 6th. Tom was a member of Geiger Church of the Brethren in Friedens where he served on the building committee and was a former choir director. During the Korean War, he served in the United States Army as a corporal. Following his military discharge, he attended Northeast Mississippi Junior College. He retired in 1996 from Lincoln Contracting and Equipment in Somerset where he was employed as a building contractor for 15 years. Previously, he was a self-employed contractor for 22 years. Tom volunteered at the Somerset Food Pantry and was known in the community as the "Candy Man." He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and had a love for Southern Gospel Music. He also enjoyed woodworking and made several pieces of furniture for their home and various other things for his family. The family wishes to thank the staff at Patriot Manor for their kind support during Tom's stay there and Dr. Mark Yaros for the compassionate care he provided. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Roger L., husband of Shelby F. Deffenbaugh McCoy, of Friedens, Terry L., husband of LouAnn Sivits McCoy, of Berlin, Diana L. Woolley of Somerset, Cheryl J. Kester of Somerset, Gail E., wife of A. Louis Diamond, Jr., of Masontown, and Brenda K., wife of William P. Spence, of Manheim; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam L. Woolley; two sons-in-law, John Kester and Carl Woolley; and three siblings, Doris Nickelson, James McCoy, and Vivian Livingston. A funeral service will be held at Geiger Church of the Brethren, 185 Culligan Road, Friedens, PA 15541 on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM with Pastors John and Linda Stoner officiating. Interment to follow in Somerset Memorial Park. The family will receive guests at the church on Wednesday from 2-4:00 PM and 6-8:00 PM and on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
