Obituary of Lois Becker Witman
Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lois Becker Witman, 85, of Marietta, PA, unexpectedly went home to be with her Lord and Savior at her residence on Tuesday morning, August 28, 2018 of natural causes. Born in East Donegal Twp., Lancaster Co., she was the daughter of the late Walter T. and Grace Douple Becker. She was the loving and faithful wife of S. Martin "Marty" Witman for 66 years on June 7.
A homemaker, Lois was an active member of the Florin Church of the Brethren in Mount Joy where she served as a deacon, taught children in the Sunday school and vacation Bible school programs, and sang in the church choir. She was a 1952 graduate of the former Mount Joy High School.
Lois always put others' ahead of herself. She tirelessly served on the food committee of the Brethren Disaster Relief Auction from its modest beginning at Root's Market until recently. She also served as president of the Women's Auxiliary at Brethren Village where she volunteered in the Thrift Shop, hosted birthday parties for residents, and decorated Christmas trees and hung seasonal door wreaths for more than 25 years. Lois was also a past treasurer of the Elizabethtown College Auxiliary and regularly sewed at both Brethren Village and Lancaster General Hospital. She will be remembered for cooking wonderful holiday meals and hosting community corn roasts and picnics.
In addition to her husband, she was the wonderful mother of three sons, Douglas L., husband of Carol Zimmerman Witman, of Marietta, Donald L., husband of Kim Pensinger Witman, of Vienna, VA, and Daryl L. Witman of Elizabethtown; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Tonia) Witman, Timothy (Nichole) Witman, Alexandra (Jonathan) Goodnight, Stephanie Witman, and Benjamin (Kaitlyn) Witman; five great grandchildren, Emma, Blake, Eleanor, Avalina, and Theodore; and three siblings, Glenn Becker of Lancaster, Marion, wife of Sam Long, of Peach Bottom, and David, husband of Phyllis Becker, of Elizabethtown.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning, September 1, 2018 beginning promptly at 11:00 AM at the Florin Church of the Brethren, 815 Bruce Avenue, Mount Joy, PA. There will be no viewing. Private interment will be in the West Green Tree Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the service and at a luncheon immediately following the service. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, contributions may be made in her memory to Rainbow's End Youth Services, 105 Fairview Street, Mount Joy, PA 17552 or to Friendship Community, 1149 East Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543.
