Obituary of Rufus F. Haldeman

Rufus F. Haldeman, 77, of 333 Maple Avenue, Manheim, PA, went home to be with his Lord unexpectedly on Thursday evening, December 17, 2009 at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim following a brief illness. Born in Rapho Twp., Lancaster County, PA, he was the son of the late John B. and Lizzie G. Fahnestock Haldeman. He was the husband of Lois J. Hoffer Haldeman for 56 years on August 2nd. Mr. Haldeman was a member of Community Bible Church in Palmyra where he was secretary-treasurer for many years. Prior to retiring in 1992, he was employed for 27 years by the PA Turnpike Commission as a maintenance worker. He also owned and operated a family farm on Cider Press Road in Rapho Twp., which he thoroughly enjoyed. Previously, he was employed as a school bus driver by Rufus K. Geib Bus Service and operated a grain hammer mill for E.E. Shenk & Sons. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Deborah K., wife of Carl Gibble, of Manheim, Glenda J., wife of Rodney Bradley, of New Holland, and Gail M., wife of Alan Simerson, of Mays Landing, NJ; a son, Brian L., husband of Wendy Willwerth Haldeman, of Lititz; eight grandchildren; a great grandson; four brothers, Daniel G., husband of Catherine Haldeman, and Robert G., husband of Viola Haldeman, both of Manheim, David G., husband of Mary Haldeman, of Lancaster, and Glenn F., husband of Mary Haldeman, of Landisville; and two sisters, Martha G. Elliott of Manheim and Joyce, wife of Clarence Lowe, of Mount Joy. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Anna M. Hess, Grace Hoffer, and Thelma G. Keener; and four brothers Phares, Marlin, Jacob, and John Henry Haldeman. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Community Bible Church, 1849 South Forge Road, Palmyra, PA 17078 on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Greg Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Shenk's Cemetery in Elizabethtown. Friends may call at the church on Sunday evening from 6-8:00 PM and on Monday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, contributions may be made to Community Bible Church to be used for mission support.
