Charles D. Meinhardt, 84, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Christiana, passed away on Wednesday morning November 28, 2018 at Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Christiana, he was the son of the late Harry B. and Dorothy M. Mimm Meinhardt. Charles was a member of the Maytown Church of God, and a veteran of the United States Army. After graduating in 1953 from Elizabethtown High School, he became the third generation in his family to be employed as a railroad worker. He was employed for 42 years by Conrail and retired in 1999 as a track supervisor. He was a member of the American Legion, Conewago Post No. 329, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fred Barley Post No. 5667, and Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge No. 596, all in Elizabethtown, the Elks Lodge in Columbia, and the 5th Ward Club in Lancaster. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by three daughters, Ann, wife of Corey Olmstead, of McClure, Melissa, wife of John Chapman, of Maytown, and Lori, wife of James Byrne, Jr., of Lancaster; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a brother, Harry Meinhardt of Elizabethtown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marion Stone and Barbara Leininger. Services are private.
