Obituary of James L. Martin

James L. Martin, Jr., 83, of 1525 Zarker Road, Lancaster, PA, died Thursday morning, April 22, 2010 at Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, PA. Born in Christiana, PA, he was the son of the late James L. and Florence A. Garman Martin. He was the husband of Doris J. Bally Martin for 60 years on June 4, 2009.
Jim was a graduate of both Manheim Twp. High School and Thaddeus Stevens Trade School. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater in the United States Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees). Prior to retiring, he was employed for more than 30 years as a sheet metal mechanic by Armstrong World Industries in Lancaster. He was a member of the IAM Union.
Jim attended the former Bethany Evangelical United Brethren Church in Lancaster and was a member of the Lancaster Moravian Church. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Pamela A., wife of Steven Scheuchenzuber, and Susan J., wife of Thomas Rowe, all of Mechanicsburg, PA; four grandchildren, Julia Rowe of Portland, OR, Marion Rowe, David Rowe, and Laura Scheuchenzuber, all of Mechanicsburg; a brother, Lee, husband of Jackie Martin, of Winchester, Virginia; and a sister, Mildred Neagley of Mechanicsburg. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Martin.
Services are private. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. The family requests that flowers please be omitted.
