Katharine L. Eyer, 78, of 3082 Spooky Nook Road, Manheim, PA, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Saturday morning, July 3, 2010 at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim. She was married to Laverne Eyer, her sweetheart, for 58 years. Born in Maytown, PA on October 15, 1931 and raised on a farm in Manheim, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Esther Heisey Koser. She was a member of the Lancaster Church of the Brethren for the last 20 years and previous was a member of First Church of God in Elizabethtown, PA for almost 50 years. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing in the choir for most of her life. Her desire to help people in need led her to train as a nurses' aid at Lancaster General Hospital and later work as a technician in the blood bank at the former St. Joseph's Hospital, both in Lancaster. Katharine became a homemaker after the birth of their first child but continued to help people in the community and her parents on the farm. She was a very talented seamstress and for many years made all of her daughter's clothing as well as her own. She also enjoyed growing flowers and making floral arrangements at her home on Spooky Nook Road. Passersby would stop to talk, admire her gardens, and buy flowers from her. She was a diligent and hard worker, working side by side with her husband to build their first home in Rheems, PA and later to restore their log house in Manheim. She always loved to walk, swim, go to the beach, and to take annual trips to Aruba. Katharine is survived by her husband, Laverne, and their three children, Jeffrey, husband of Blandine Fuchs Eyer of Friedrichshafen, Germany, Deborah, wife of David Hall, of Madison, WI, and Richard, husband of Karen Keller Eyer of Lititz, PA; six grandchildren; a brother, Clair, husband of Virginia Koser, of Downingtown, PA; and two sisters, Janice, wife of Douglas Wenger, of Lititz, and Charlene Koser-Leigh of Wrightsville, PA.
