Dear Grandpa,
Thank you for all the great times and memories you gave me. I remember when you used to tickle me and play crocodile with me. It was so fun and I always had a great time and couldn't wait to go back. As I grew older and stronger that was no longer possible. We played chess and you used to beat me but then I would beat him. I learned a lot of chess from him. Also, we would play cards and I will never forget when Grandma would get mad at him. He was fun and brought life to the table. Although I was only with him for 14 years, he made a huge impact and I will remember him for as long as I live. Thank You Grandpa!!
Love, Isaiah Engstrom

A couple of things I loved about Granddaddy is that he used to tickle me, take my cousins and I on wagon rides and gave me presents on Christmas.

Dear Dad,
Almost 23 years ago we met when I began to date your daughter Ronda. Honestly, I was scared to death to meet you. The day I asked you if I could marry Ronda I thought I was going to throw-up I was so nervous. To my relief, I was welcomed into your family. After Ronda and I had dated a couple years my own dad died unexpectedly. Needless to say I was crushed. It took me a while to welcome someone else into my life I could call "dad" but I am forever thankful that you were that person.
You not only gave me the love of my life, Ronda, you also showed me and my four children the love of Jesus Christ. I am so thankful for the times that we had together and the talks we had. I remember when I taught at Indiana Junior High you used to tell me that someday I should get my doctorate and teach at a university, what a pipe dream I used to think. After I earned my doctorate and began to work at California University, you began to tell me that someday I should become the dean. Once again, that was the last thing that ever crossed my mind, but I guess I am just one step away from that now. You never pressured me to do things, but gently encouraged me to higher goals.
I thank you for introducing me to the Gideon's. Making sure boys and girls, men and women were given the Word of God was so important to you. I also thank you for helping me all the times I would call with questions on how to fix things or what to do in certain situations. Sometimes you told me whether I asked or not.
You loved all of your "kids" and grandchildren equally, even when they were from another country and looked and acted a little different. You spent time with my kids watching their baseball games, seeing them dedicated at church, playing cards, going with us on vacations and so much more.
You taught me much about how to be a Christian husband and father, probably without ever knowing it. Once again I have to say "Good-bye" to my earthly dad. I look forward to the day when we can, together with my dad Charles, meet in heaven and be in the presence of our heavenly father. You will be missed.
Dan

Dad's greatest loves were my Mom - second only to his love for the Lord, his children, grandchildren, friends and church family.
His greatest fear was having family or friends die without knowing Jesus.
His greatest aversion was being tickled. He just hated that.
His greatest hope was seeing Jesus and having all his family gathered in heaven with him one day.
His greatest accomplishment was showing others the love of Christ and being an example of what it means to love and serve God to all of us.
His greatest legacy is that all his children and their spouses walk closely with the Lord, have loving marriages, and are raising their children to love and serve God.
One of his greatest stories which he liked to share was putting cow dung on the neighbors porch and lighting it on fire. He always laughed about the way the neighbor ran out and started stomping out that fire.
One of my greatest memories is of Daddy carrying me up the stairs to bed each night. We girls were on the third floor. He'd tuck us in with hugs and kisses and then he'd call out to us as he went down the stairs, "Nighty, night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite."
Maybe the greatest thing about Daddy is how ready he always was with a hug and kiss and to tell us he loved us.

Daddy loved me, this I know,
'Cause his hugs and kisses told me so.
Daddy loved me, this I know,
'cause every Sunday to church we'd go.
Daddy loved us and he wanted us to know
Just how much Jesus loved us so.
Daddy loved Jesus, this I know,
'cause all his days he served him so.
Daddy loved us, there's no doubt,
family was what he was all about.
Daddy loved us and he'd make a fuss,
About wanting to spend time with us.
Daddy loved us and he did toil,
so his loved ones could enjoy the spoil.
Daddy loved us and he'll be missed
-His smile, his laughter, his hugs and kiss.
Daddy loved Jesus, too I know,
And into his loving arms he did go.
Daddy loved me and was glad to know,
That someday to heaven I, too, will go.
Daddy loved us and we'll meet again,
So its "see you later," Daddy til then.
Love, Ronda

Millie, My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. While we celebrate his life and that he is now in the more immediate presence of the Lord, the sorrow is not easy to bear. How wonderful that you have your large family, for your faith and your family will be your strength and comfort. Dave, deceased since 1998, was a friend of Ron's, and thought the world of him. Sincerely, Carol Freese
