Obituary of J. Richard "Dick" White

Richard "Dick" White, 67, of 542 School Lane, Mount Joy, PA, formerly of Marietta, PA, passed into the presence of his Lord on Thursday morning, February 17, 2011 at Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center, Lititz, PA following a lengthy illness. Born in Columbia, PA, he was the son of the late Richard G. and Jane Zilhardt White. He was the husband of Beverly A. Herr White for 32 years on July 29, 2010. Dick was a member of Mount Joy Church of God where he served as a cheerful greeter. Dick attended Donegal High School and later retired from the Donegal School District after being employed for 17 years as a custodian. Previously, he was employed as a custodian by Valley Forge General Hospital, Department of Army, in Phoenixville, PA, the Columbia School District, and the English Presbyterian Church in Marietta. He was a member of the Casiphia Lodge No. 552, F&AM, Mount Joy, and a past member of the Pioneer Fire Company and the Jaycees, both in Marietta. In the late 1950s, Dick played baseball on the Marietta Midget team. He collected political memorabilia and was a diehard Arizona Cardinals fan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Donald M. White of Mount Joy, and David L. White of Marietta; father-in-law, Clyde H. Herr of Lancaster, PA; a niece, Cheryl L. Malpezzi; two nephews, Dean M. White and Patrick H. Cassidy; and two great nephews, Jonathan and Nicholas Malpezzi. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Mount Joy Church of God, 30 East Main Street, Mount Joy, PA 17552 with Rev. Robert Malick officiating. Interment will be in East Donegal Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the church on Monday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.
