Obituary of Amos G. Whisler
Please share a memory of Amos to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Amos G. Whisler, 89, of Elizabethtown, PA, peacefully went home to be with his Savior on Monday evening, April 4, 2011 at his home. Born in Mount Joy Twp., he was the son of the late Jonas H. and Elsie Greiner Whisler. He was the husband of Florence S. Myers Whisler for 68 years on June 27, 2010.
Mr. Whisler was an active member of Elizabethtown Mennonite Church. He was the third generation to farm the family farm on which he was born. He was also a well-known cattle hauler from which he retired in 1986. His natural ease for conversation, attendance at public auctions, and interest in people all contributed to his wide circle of acquaintances and friends. In addition to hunting big game in the western United States, he enjoyed traveling with his wife.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Jean, wife of Thomas C. Koser, of Millerton, PA, Gerald M., husband of Joyce E. Nauman Whisler, of Elizabethtown, and Marian, wife of Donald Brubaker, of Landisville, PA; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three step great grandsons; one step great great granddaughter; and two sisters, Mabel Swanger of Elizabethtown and Ruth Gamber of Lancaster, PA. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Marcia Ballard, and two sisters, Nora Zeager and Suie Whisler.
Family and guests are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, April 8, 2011 starting promptly at 1:00 PM at Elizabethtown Mennonite Church, 300 South Spruce Street, Elizabethtown. Interment will follow in the Elizabethtown Mennonite Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday morning from 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, contributions may be made to Cornerstone Community Ministries, 95 South Wilson Avenue, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
