I will always keep wonderful and fond memories of Stella. She was my assistant when I was director of student activities and head resident of Ober dormitory at E-town College from 1975 to 1979. I knew Stella for years before then, when she was the assistant to Opal Nees. My apartment and our offices were in Ober. Stella quickly took to mothering (and spoiling!) me. She would tidy-up my office, which I guess a lot of assistants do. But how many would wash dirty dishes left in the kitchen sink from the night before? I believe the ultimate was one day when she was a little bored -- I returned from lunch in the cafeteria to find that she had gathered all my dirty laundry from the bedroom and washed it in the downstairs laundry! I really loved Stella! My career took me to the Baltimore/D.C. corridor for 20 years, until I returned to the College in 1998. Shortly after returning I visited the little yellow house on Lemon Street. It was like Stella had not changed at all. A couple years ago I received a lovely note from Stella, when she was living at Pleasant View. Last summer, I decided to go visit her, only to learn that she was no longer a resident. I guess because of privacy laws, I could not get any information from Pleasant View. I was heartbroken. I'm sad that I didn't get one last chance to see Stella. But I know that she's in heaven, and probably picking up after God.
