I remember handing Dr. Fairman a paper I had written for a class...it was on Islam, right after the Sept 11th attacks. I remember I sat in his office while he read my paper in about literally 30 seconds. !! He was the fastest reader I had ever seen. And then we discussed the paper! He not only speed-read it at about 3 seconds per page, he could thoroughly discuss the content. He was brilliant. He became much more than a professor...but a mentor and friend. He invited me and my fiance (now wife) over for dinner and games at his house with his wife. He came to our wedding. I much admired him...and remember and even recite many things that I learned in his class - like his chart on Biblical emphasis vs clarity...and many others. I wish I had hung out with him more over the years...but everybody needed a little bit of him! I'll see you there, Your friend, Ethan.

What a tragic loss! I am not sure that I’ve ever known a more humble, forgiving & kind man. He was a fantastic listener & I thank God for the gift of knowing Rick! He beautifully shared God’s unconditional love & acceptance in extremely challenging circumstances in his personal life! I believe that the seeds of faith that Rick & Judy planted will reap a great harvest but it is difficult to imagine the void that Rick’s family must be feeling. May God wrap you in His arms & hold you close!

Judy and family,
John and I are so sorry for your loss of Rick! We remember him from the early days of your dating and fun times we had as young couples getting together and playing games! We were so excited the night you stopped by our house(Nov 15. If I remember correctly) to tell us you were engaged! Many years have passed, lots of joys and some sorrows, but God's been faithful. Rick was a man who loved his Savior and is now in his presence. Heavens gain is our loss. We're praying for you all! Love John and Libby

Rick was a remarkable man. Despite his intellect and vast knowledge of Scripture, he could (and would!) talk to anyone with ease. He was fascinated by people and when he met someone, he wanted to hear their story. He was a master at putting the focus on others and not himself. He loved the Lord and he loved people. Heaven is richer, but this world is poorer for his passing.
