It is so sad that a brain tumor took Nevin from us. My wife of 47 years also developed a brain tumor suddenly, a GBM4, in 2013, at age 67. Ginny Wivell Ranck was a do-er like Nevin, and though we pulled all stops for her to be the one in 50 who survive it, she died one week short of two years later when a second tumor formed on her brainstem. Somehow we need to find what triggers these things! There are over 120 DIFFERENT brain tumors, but we do not know what causes any of them! May God bless Doneen and family, we really appreciated Nevin for all he did in the insurance business, for the church and the community.

Our deep condolences to the family. We have many great memories showing horses at Pa Farm Show with Nevin as a competitor. He did great and his horses always looked fit. He was also a competent and caring insurance professional. He took care of our needs for decades and would stop in for visits along with his Ruhl insurance gifts. He was our friend. We will miss him.

Nevin and my friendship began as freshmen at Messiah College in 1974. We played "The BIC" game early on, discovering all of the connections our parents, Uncles, Aunts and cousins already had made. So it was that a bond was formed that would last a lifetime. Though we would see each other infrequently over these last years, Nevin was the kind of warm hearted person that you could pick up your friendship right where you left off the last time you were together.
Like so many others in our "band of characters" at Messiah (namely Randy Frey, Lee Wenger, Ken Long and Ray Kipe to name just a few) our girlfriends became our wives and we all shared a wonderful stage of life together. One particular memory of those times was when Nevin and Doneen got married. It was a blistering hot day inside the church. As both officiating Pastors were also fathers of the Bride and Groom, their advice for the couple became lengthy; so much so that I and several other attendee men standing were overcome with heat exhaustion and began dropping to the floor like flies.
I always appreciated Nevin's strong faith and appreciation for the history, beliefs, and values of the BIC church. He had deep and genuine love for God which led him to an actionable life of serving Him in so many different ways. Nevin was larger than life, and my mind cannot wrap around the thought that he is no longer of this world. Doneen and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you as you go through your grief and loss. We pray God's amazing grace and strength will be with you in ways no human can understand. With a lifetime of love, Todd and Marian Lehman

Here’s my favorite story about Nevin’s generosity and kindness. Last year I decided to make some rhubarb jelly. I gave a jar to Doneen for her family to try. A few days later, I got a note in the mail from Nevin telling me how much he enjoyed the jelly. The fact that he took the time to send me a note was amazing considerate. I will never forget how kind he was and how he made us all laugh at small group. He was truly a great guy.

I remember how Doneen came to visit us in Germany with some family members in 1974. She was a young lady then, not much older than I. She was missing her boyfriend Nevin so much during her trip with us. I feel deeply sorry for her loss. May God give her strength.
