Obituary of Ruthanne L. Herr
Ruthanne L. Herr, 86, of Hershey, PA, passed peacefully in her sleep at home on Saturday, December 21, 2024 and awoke in the presence of her Lord with her arms open wide. Born in Conewago Twp., Dauphin County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob R. and Fannie H. Longenecker Landvater. She was the wife of the late Robert L. Herr for 58 years prior to his passing in 2016.
A homemaker, Ruthanne was a 1956 graduate of Hershey High School. Although she mainly focused her time raising their children, Ruthanne helped Bob with his side jobs cleaning churches, Twin Kiss in Palmyra, and Hershey Community Center. She was a longtime member of Conewago Church of the Brethren where she served as a deacon and often helped in the kitchen. Most recently, she was attending Chiques Church and was active in the quilting group. She also pieced together patches that were knotted and given to those in need and embroidered baby quilts for each of her great grandchildren.
Ruthanne made many close friends in the local Amish community as a result of her driving for them. After Bob passed, she continued to meet for breakfast monthly and attend special events with the Hershey retirees. In addition to listening to Southern gospel and bluegrass music. Ruthanne enjoyed trips to Florida and Myrtle Beach.
She is survived by five children, Debra, wife of the late Andy Smith, of Hershey, Diane, wife of Barry Myers, of Elizabethtown, Dennis, husband of Jeany Lauver Herr, of Lebanon, Duane, husband of Beth McBratney Herr, of Hershey, and Darla, wife of Michael Johnson, of Hershey; ten grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two brothers, James Landvater of Hershey, and Kenneth, husband of Audrey Landvater, of Mount Joy. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Elaine Herr; a grandson, Adam Lee Herr; and a brother, David Landvater.
A funeral service will be held on Friday morning, December 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Chiques Church, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, PA followed by a luncheon. The family will receive guests during a public viewing at the church on Friday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Following the luncheon, interment will be in the Hanoverdale Brethren Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
