Obituary of Doris H. Faus

Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Doris H. Faus, 70, of Manheim, PA, peacefully passed from this life and journeyed to her heavenly home following a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer on Friday afternoon, April 6, 2012, at Essa Flory Hospice Center, surrounded by her family. Born in Lancaster, PA, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Robert O. and Floy Myer Hess. She was the loving wife of Henry K. Faus for 52 years on August 3. Doris was an active member of the Chiques Church of the Brethren where she was a former youth advisor, taught Sunday school, was a member and former director of the adult choir, and sang with various vocal groups. She was also a member of the Brethren Heritage Singers, a group comprised of members of the Chiques and Lancaster congregations. Doris and her husband were longtime proprietors of the former Hess's Store in Mastersonville, which was founded by her late grandfather, Harry Hess. Doris took advantage of her position in the store to reach out to those in the community and to affect positive change in their lives. More recently, she volunteered her time at Pleasant View Retirement Community. Doris enjoyed spending time with her family at Ocean City, NJ and the Outer Banks, as well as spending time at their mountain getaways in Potter and Perry counties. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Rev. Ronald E.H., husband of Carol Hanawalt Faus, of Glendale, AZ, Steven L., husband of Dina E. Werkley Faus, of Elizabethtown, PA, and Michael H. Faus of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren, Brandt, husband of Kristen Faus, Josalee, Ryan, Corey, Andrea, and Alex Faus; two great grandsons, Eli and Henry Faus; and two siblings, Robert M., husband of Judith Hess, of Lancaster, and Marie A. Hess of Amherst, MA. A memorial service will be held on Sunday afternoon, April 15, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Chiques Church of the Brethren, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, PA with Brothers Don Fitzkee and Norman Yeater officiating. Interment will be private in the Chiques Cemetery. There is no public viewing. The family will receive guests immediately following the memorial service at a luncheon in the Family Life Center of the church. Please omit flowers.
