Obituary of John D. Coolidge

John D. Coolidge, Jr., 86, of Lancaster, PA, died Friday morning, April 19, 2013 at Lancaster General Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John D. and Verna Coolidge. He was the husband of Faye C. Young Coolidge for 54 years prior to her death in 2001.
During World War II, John served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater as a platoon sergeant with the 11th Airborne Division and as a paratrooper with the 187th Glider Infantry Regiment. Prior to retiring, he was employed as a supervisor by Bell Telephone Company, never being absent from work one day in more than 40 years. In addition to being a Boy Scout leader in his earlier days, he was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 43 in Lancaster, and the Harrisburg Consistory. John enjoyed trout fishing, especially in Stony Creek in Dauphin County.
John is survived by two sons, John D. Coolidge, III, of Pequea, PA, and David A. Coolidge, of Lancaster, six grandchildren, Stacey, Corey, Ashley, Sondra, Justin, and Josh; and eight great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Coolidge.
