Leona G. Peters, 82, of Manheim, PA, beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, was set free from her physical burdens and was taken home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday morning, May 25, 2016, at Bob Fryer and Family Inpatient Center in Mount Joy after a lengthy illness. Born in the Parkesburg area of ChesterCounty, she was the oldest child of Paul E. and Rachel Lapp Mast. She was the devoted wife of Jesse F. Peters. They would have been married for 60 years on September 8. Leona was a member of Calvary Bible Church in Mount Joy. After graduating from Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse, she began her nursing career at LGH. Following that, she was employed as a registered nurse by the former Mount Hope Dunkard Brethren Home for more than 12 years and ended her nursing career as a part-time employee of Friendship Community. Leona was the inspiration behind the founding of Peters Upholstery, as well as being the bookkeeper and providing continuous support to the business. She was very active in the Ladies' Auxiliary of Gideons International, Lancaster West Camp and served in many Pennsylvania State offices of the ministry during the late 1990s. Along with her husband, she attended 33 Gideons International Conventions. Her faith, family, flowers, and sewing were very important to her. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, J. Keith, husband of Bonnie Webb Peters, of Lititz, David L., husband of Linda Adler Peters, of Clermont, FL, Dean R., husband of Kim Warner Peters, of Mount Joy, and Kenton G., husband of LoriJo Grubb Peters, of Manheim; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and four siblings; Ross, husband of Polly Mast, of Lansing, NC, Anna Mary, wife of Larry Shepherd, of West Jefferson, NC, Glenn, husband of Margaret Mast, of Lansing, and Jean, wife of Dan Hess, of Lansing. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Collin M. Peters. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday evening, May 31, 2016, at 7:00 PM at Calvary Bible Church, 629 Union School Road, Mount Joy, PA. Private interment will be in Mastersonville Brethren in Christ Cemetery. There will be no public viewing. The family will receive guests at the church on Tuesday from 5:30 PM until the time of the service. The family requests that flowers please be omitted.
