Obituary of J. Harold Hollinger

J. Harold Hollinger, 84, of Mount Joy, PA, formerly a longtime resident of Elizabethtown, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, March 18, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital following a brief illness. Born in West Donegal Twp., he was the son of the late John Henry and Edna Enterline Hollinger. He was the husband of the late Ruth H. Miller Hollinger for 57 years prior to her passing in 2014.
Harold was a charter member of Elizabethtown Grace Brethren Church where he was very active as a Sunday school teacher, song leader, and deacon. He was also served the broader church on the District and National levels. More recently he attended Hershey Free Church with his daughter and her family. Harold retired from B&G Lumber in Elizabethtown where he was widely known and a friendly presence behind the counter. He was also a faithful member of the Rotary Club of Elizabethtown and in his younger years served on the West Donegal Twp. Planning Commission.
In 1973 Harold graduated from Lancaster Bible College with a certificate in Christian Education. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, singing, Bible study, playing games, and spending times with family and friends.
He is survived by four children, John K. husband of Laurie R. Good Hollinger, parents of Miranda, Kelsey, and Kendra, of Marietta, Brian K., husband of Carol A. Showalter Hollinger, parents of Courtney and Tyler, of Denver, PA, Arlan L., husband of Diane M. Hiestand Hollinger, parents of Jenna, Andrew, Sarah, and Austin, of Mount Joy, and Janis L., wife of Richard M. Broomell, parents of Ben, Sam, and Rachel, of Mount Joy; six great grandchildren; and two siblings, Ann Kauffman of Apple Valley, MN, and James, husband of Anne Hollinger, of Lady Lake, FL. He was preceded in death by a son, Daryl K. Hollinger; and two siblings, Jay E. Hollinger and Paul E. Hollinger.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday morning, March 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM at West Green Tree Church of the Brethren, 740 Greentree Road, Elizabethtown, PA. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive guests at a viewing at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30AM until the time of the service.
