Obituary of Alvin B. Risser

Alvin B. "Junie" Risser, Jr., 68, of Mount Joy, PA went home to be with his Lord on Monday evening, July 19, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Rapho Twp., he was the son of the late H. Alvin and Emma Bradley Risser. He was the husband of Mildred A. Zimmerman for 50 years on January 9, 2010. Junie was an active member of Chiques Church of the Brethren in Manheim, PA. He was employed for 14 years as a truck driver by Good Transport Services, Inc. in Columbia, PA. Previously, he was a self-employed truck driver, transporting potatoes across the United States. He was a member of Milton Grove Sportsmen Club. In addition to spending time with his family, Junie enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, caring for his lawn, and woodworking.. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Karen L., wife of Randy J. Ginder, of Elizabethtown, PA, Ken L., husband of Sue Halbleib Risser, of Manheim, Kevin L. Risser of Elizabethtown, and Kay R., wife of Scott K. Poole, of Hampstead, MD; seven grandchildren, Brandi and Andrea Ginder, Christopher, Kyle, and Katie Risser, and Madison and Mason Poole; two great grandchildren, Autumn Ginder and Cole Risser; two brothers, Kenneth, husband of Lorraine Risser, of Elizabethtown, and James, husband of Linda Risser, of St. Charles, MN; and three sisters, Mary Lou, wife of Win Randler, of Elizabethtown, Carol, wife of J. Albert Greenawalt, of Elizabethtown, and Kathy, wife of Vince Sensenig, of Kinzers, PA. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Ginder. Family and guests are invited to a funeral service on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Chiques Church of the Brethren, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, PA with ministers Ron Strickler and Nathan Myer officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive guests at the church on Friday evening from 6:30-8:30 PM and on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.
